Summary
-
Canary Wharf is the world's single largest commerical property
development containing over 12million square feet of office space.
It's situated in the Docklands area of London and contains all
three of London's tallest buildings and is arguably the first
real skyscraper district in the U.K
Construction started on the project in 1988 and ground to a halt
with the recession of the early 90s but since then thing's have
picked up and with it's cheap office space and lack of height
restrictions companies have been falling over themselves to get
landmark buildings at the Wharf.
Phase three of the original estate is now nearing completion with
building having started or been completed on every plot of land.
The Canary Wharf Group are now looking to expand the estate into
much of the rundown area surrounding it. At the same time other
property developers have got in on the act, and although they
aren't building anything near the height of One Canada Square
the whole area is slowly being developed to contain dozens and
dozens of highrise buildings.
