Other Information

  • William Henry Lynn based the design for Chester Town Hall on the famous Cloth Hall in Ypres, later to be made iconic by World War One.
  • Chester Town Hall was opened by the then Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII. Also in attendance at the opening was William Gladstone.
  • Although the building has a tower, it was only in 1979 that the clock was actually installed in it. The reasons for this delay of over a hundred years are not exactly clear.
