  • The original St Mary Aldermary was burned down in the Great Fire of 1666. It was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren in the Gothic style between 1679 and 1682.
  • The interior contains exquisite High Gothic fan vaulting on the ceiling of the Lady Chapel.
  • The cornices were added to the tower in 1701.
  • The church has many fans and architect critic Pevsner calls it "the chief surviving monument of the 17th century Gothic revival in the City and -- with Warwick -- the most important late 17th century Gothic church in England."
