- Battersea Power Station is actually two connected power stations, Plant A was a single chimney which was added to in 1955.
- It was designed by George Gilbert Scott, from the famous family of architects, who had also designed the red telephone box.
- It remains the largest brick structure in Europe. This is built over a steel frame.
- Capacity for the station is 509 megawatts, which is roughly enough to power 350,000 homes today.
- The power station was closed between 1975 and 1983, and given listed status to protect it. Despite this status it spent years decaying.
- Numerous films and TV programmes have been made with this as a location including Monty Python's Meaning of Life, Richard the Third and Tomb Raider. Harvey Dent gets blown up at Battersea Power Station in The Dark Knight. Most famously it is the cover for Pink Floyd's seminal album, Animals, an image so iconic it features as "modern art" in the film Children of Men.
- Work was scheduled to begin on the development around the power station from May 2005 but construction work actually began in July 2014.
