Images Other Information
- Delta Point was built in the mid 1980s as a speculative office building, it was occupied for most of its life by British Telecom. It was sold by Minerva PLC in 2005 for £56.5 million, but by 2010 the building was laying empty thanks to redundancies made at the telecoms giant.
- The structure was built at a rate of two weeks per floor, with a varying column grid of 6-9 metres depending on where in the building the structure was to help facilitate rapid construction and lower costs.
- The piled foundations have a maximum strength of 1,100 tonnes per pile whilst they stand upon Thanet Sands.
- Cladding Delta Point are aluminium panels chosen for their shelf life of 25 years, something that was borne out by the fact the building was in continuous use for almost quarter of a century.
- Delta Point is one of the filming locations for the third Christopher Nolan / Christian Bale Batman film, the Dark Knight Rises. In it Delta Point is converted into Gotham General Hospital with a car chase, and shots of Batman running over the rooftop.
