- Taberner House was constructed as a result of the burgeoning demand for council services in Croydon as the borough experienced a massive post-war spurt of growth.
- Taberner House is named after Ernest Taberner who was the clerk for the Corporation of Croydon (the predecessor of the Borough Council) from 1937 to 1963.
- The council vacated Taberner House in 2013, and with a surplus of office space in Croydon it is Taberner House was demolished from 2014-early 2015.
