Images Other Information
- The structure employs 50,000 cubic yards of concrete in its construction, it is 116.1 metres from the bottom of the basement slab to the very top, and the weight of the tower structure is 32,200 tonnes. Each of the concrete basement columns carries 3,175 tonnes of weight.
- The concrete basement raft was created in the space of only ten days with a maximum of 900 cubic metres of concrete poured in a twelve hour period. The temperature of the drying concrete was 45.5 degrees centigrade and took almost twelve months to cool to room temperature.
- The tower was designed to be a separate structure to the podium to avoid cracking, and as such had a further 5cm of of settlement space.
- When the hotel opened there were 521 guest rooms, five restaurants, five bars, whilst a single room cost £5 10s to £9 10s, and a double from £7 10s to £12 10s.
