New Park Tower Designed For San Francisco

Goettsch Partners has won a competition to design a new skyscraper to stand in the heart of San Francisco.

The scheme is being developed as a joint venture by The John Buck Company and Golub & Company and features a 43-storey 184 metre tall tower that will contain roughly 70,000 square metres of grade A office space.

The scheme, named Park Tower after all the internal greenery it will have, sits in the SOMA area opposite the new Transbay Transit Centre. Given the density of the city in this location the structure fills the entirety of the site meaning there is no external public landscaping at all.

To resolve this issue the architects have taken a novel approach of creating over 2,000 square metres of public space on the upper floors of the tower which will be a mixture of landscaped decks and sky gardens. Adding further to the public realm, in a sense at least, is the foot of the tower which features a public plaza rising ten metres in height that the tower stands over, similar in nature to that of the Leadenhall Building in London.

The skyscraper is anticipated to begin construction in October 2015 and construction should finish in 2018.
