Supertall Proposals Return To Dubai

Signs that Dubai could finally be emerging from its real estate slump continue with the proposal of twin supertall luxury towers.

Situated on Business Bay, the mixed use project will contain a mixture of serviced apartments, a five star hotel, ground floor retail, and standard condominiums. In all there will be 471 apartments in one building, with the hotel and 371 apartments in the other.

Unusually for a tall building project in Arabia it's also been designed with public transport in mind - the project is planned to stand next to the Business Bay Metro Station, one of the stops on Dubai's new metro network.

Developed by Dubai Properties the project consists of two 365 metre tall towers that look hopelessly futuristic thanks to their curves. A highly reflective outer skin of glass helps reduce solar glare whilst recessed balconies are tucked away in the shade between the outer facade. Amongst the architectural features that the lower level of the towers have a is a footbridge that connects them over a busy road with the glazing flared out giving it shelter.

These days most of the projects that emerge in Dubai are futuristic but lack the scale of what was proposed in the last boom, however Business Bay Towers show that perhaps the Emirate hasn't lost its taste for the supertall after all.
