25 Floor Apartment Tower Planned In Cardiff

What will be the largest office development built speculatively for years in Cardiff has been unveiled by the developer.

Called Capitol View it will comprise of some 5,500 square metres of office space in suites of up to 700 square metres each, an enormous amount of space for the typically modest requirements Cardiff usually has.

Eager to press ahead and realise their vision, developer JR Smart has moved fast. Already the office element of the project, designed by local architects Wigley Fox, is under construction on the site. This is a risk they are hoping will pay off thanks to the shortage of large amounts of modern office space in the Welsh capital.

Nearby will stand a residential tower of 25 storeys rising to roughly 75 metres named the Capitol Apartments. There will be 164 new apartments within. This elliptically shaped residential tower comes from the pens of architecture firm, Powell Dobson, and is being developed by the Moorfield Group.

It will be clad in vertical ribbons set over glass giving it dashes of warm autumn hues. This cladding is patterned for every two floors halving the visual repetition each floor would create horizontally.

Whether the Moorfield Group get going as fast as JR Smart remains to be seen but the construction of a nearby office development shows that at least one developer believes that the area is worth risking some money on.
