Second Echo Rings Onto Leeds Skyline

Work is underway on the second of two blocks in a new residential development in Leeds. Echo Central 2 is the accompanying ten storey building to Echo Central, 15 floor already under construction apartment block.

Like its taller cousin it too will be residential accommodation, but with 26 studio apartments, 49 1 bedroom apartments and 47 2 bedroom apartments including 4 duplex units. There will also be 50 parking spaces and a ground floor restaurant surrounded by a landscaped podium.

Along with Echo Central, it's been designed by DLA Architecture for the project developers Rushbond and Barratt, the infamous suburban home-builder, who have worked together before in Leeds on Brewery Wharf.

The organic curving design is planned to compliment the taller building creating an arrangement almost like a couple of sea shells laying on the beach. The tear drop floor plan compliments the curving walls and helps the end of the building finish in a prow leaning out to the east that creates a feeling of symmetry alongside the neighbouring Echo Central which juts out in a similar manner to the west.

Their commanding position on the local terrain standing prominently on a hill should create something of a local landmark despite the modest height.
Both the Echo buildings are scheduled for completion in 2008.
