  • Originally designed in 1846 by Henry Goodridge whose main client was the infamous William Beckford, this design was not progressed and the construction of the Hamilton Palace Mausoleum became stalled until David Bryce was brought in by the Alexander, 10th Duke of Hamilton.
  • Bryce threw out Goodridge's design and started again from scratch with a different site.
