Other Information

  • The architect, Ian Simpson, came up with the design by originally taking a shape similar to that of One Blackfriars and adapting them to the site with a shorter base used to reduce overshadowing on neighbouring properties.
  • At first the tower was intended to be 135 metres AOD, but this was increased to 155 metres which is the maximum height permitted on the site by aviation limits.
  • A pocket park was to be connected to the base of the tower but the suggestion of a public observation level at the top was deemed technically infeasible.
  • The scheme was put on hold in May 2009 following the 2008 financial crisis and as a result of new lending terms from the banks a cheaper design without a middle plant floor had to be drawn up leading this plan to be shelved.
