Images Other Information
- Old College was a gradual construction project for the University of Edinburgh designed by Robert Adam that saw a university quadrangle gradually built between 1791 and 1827.
- At the time, thanks to the contemporary nature of the building compared to other parts of the University of Edinburgh the building was called New College, but since then the name has gradually changed to Old College.
- The dome on the eastern side of the building was part of the original plan by Robert Adam but not actually built until 1887 due to lack of funds. When it was constructed it was done to a design by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson.
- Despite this the college quad has never actually been completed although every so often architects moot ideas on how it could be finished.
