  • Albert Memorial Clock Tower

Other Information

  • The Clock Tower is built on wooden foundations which since construction was completed have gradually collapsed into the marshy ground they stand on causing the structure to lean noticeably by several degrees.
  • The structure is surrounded by roads and years of traffic fumes and general pollution caused many of the sculptures on it to decay.
  • Faced with the stonework rotting and the tower gradually falling over a full restoration project got underway and was completed in 2002 with the foundations improved to stop the lean, but not right the tower back to its perpendicular setting, and many of the sculptures replaced.
