  • The existing St Patrick's Cathedral was built upon a charter established by Henry the 3rd dated 1225 which legislated for preachers throughout Ireland to collect alms for the construction of a new church.
  • The original tower was burned down in a fire along with part of the west nave in 1362 but rebuilt rapidly by 1370.
