  • St Michael's Church is the oldest building in Southampton.
  • The steeple was added as a guide for shipping in 1732.
  • Ironically, the spire served as a navigational aid for German bombers in World War 2 and as a result they avoided bombing it making it the only medieval church in the city to survive.
