Other Information

  • Having won a competition, the design by Glenn Howells for Temple Quay in Bristol had a particularly long gestation period taking a further five years of design work to be honed into the thirteen floor glazed block with tear-shaped floors that exists today.
  • The tower, built on site ND2, was reduced by two floors to lower the visual impact that it would have when seen from Bristol's train station, although even at fifteen floors it wasn't tall enough to pierce Bristol's skyline and be visible from a distance.
  • Cladding the tower giving it a metallic look is anodised aluminium framing the neutral shades of the unitised floor to ceiling glass.
  • Expanding the ground area around the base of the tower to the south between it and Temple Quay is a cantilever that reduces the footprint of the first floor to that of an egg on the ground floor.
  • Enhancing the views of the water from the ground floor, the entrance is set away to the nothern end of the tower allowing unobstructed views. The core is set in the centre of the tower, with the access corridors to the apartments also running from their to the north, again allowing uninterrupted southern views from level one upwards.
