Lloyds Register of Shipping Building

Other Information

  • Lloyd's Register features a structural expressionist office building integrated into and above the original Grade II listed Lloyd's register. Originally it was due to the leave the City of London for a greenfield site following the planning constraints placed by government on the redevelopment site at the time but this changed after their proposed campus outside London was rejected.
  • The floorplates of the building are a series of interconnecting rectangles that respond to the tight and irregular shape of the site with the height increasing from six to fourteen storeys along the way. As one would expect, the architect's signature external vertical service shafts allow core-free office space.
  • Covering the western and eastern facades are horizontal louvres that are controlled by solar detection equipment on the roof and angle automatically to increase or decrease solar shading depending on the building requirements.
